What is the best AI girlfriend app?

The best AI girlfriend app for most adults is Candy AI, because a paid plan gives unlimited text chat for $13.99 a month on my own account. OurDream AI is second and better for media. Four more apps follow, and I label each as tested or not.

This page is part of our AI girlfriend app guide. I am Nina Castell, and the method is on how we test. Searches like “best ai girlfriend”, “best ai girlfriend app 2026” and “top ai girlfriend” all lead to the same question: which app is worth paying for.

Here is the honest limit. I paid for Candy AI’s monthly plan and OurDream AI’s Standard plan for about three months each. I have not tested Nomi AI, SpicyChat AI, Janitor AI or Joi AI. For those four, every fact below comes from the brand’s own pages, its app store listing or a named third party, and I say which.

How do the six apps compare at a glance?

Candy AI and OurDream AI are the only two tested apps, and they are the only two with first-hand notes here. The table uses list prices at the time of writing. App Store prices are what Apple lists in the US and may differ from the brand’s website.

How did I rank the best AI girlfriend apps?

I ranked on four things: what text chat costs, what media costs, how clear the rules are, and whether I paid for it myself. Tested apps rank above researched apps when the data is close, because I can only vouch for what I used. There are no scores, and the order is a judgement.

Here is the weighting in plain words.

• Cost of regular chat. Most people mainly talk. An app that charges nothing extra for text beats one that meters it.
• Cost of media. Images, video and voice calls are where bills grow, so I convert tokens and coins into dollars.
• Clear rules. A published refund window, cancellation route and adult policy count for more than a vague promise.
• Hands-on use. I rank what I paid for above what I only read about.

Two terms matter in what follows. A token (Candy’s word) or a dreamcoin (OurDream’s word) is an in-app credit that pays for a media feature. A context window is how much recent conversation the underlying large language model can read at once, and it decides how much the character “remembers” in a long chat.

I also left things out on purpose. Anything that only a third party reports, and that I could not check on an official page, is labelled as such or skipped. That is why Joi AI has no dollar figure here.

Is Candy AI the best AI girlfriend app overall?

Yes for regular chatting. Candy AI sells unlimited text messaging on a subscription, and I paid $13.99 a month for about three months. Its weakness is the 100 monthly tokens, which go fast if you generate images, videos or voice calls. It is the one I would start with.

Candy AI (candy.ai) is operated by EverAI Limited, a company registered in Malta. The terms of service say the subscription includes unlimited messaging plus monthly tokens, generally 100 a month, used for image generation or voice notes. What stands out about Candy AI?

Unlimited text is the headline, and the character customisation is one of the better parts. Image quality was a strength in my account, and the annual pricing is affordable. The Premium page also lists a character creator and 18+ video.

Voice calls cost 3 tokens a minute on my account. At 100 tokens a month, that is about 33 minutes of calls if you spend nothing on images. I did the sum myself, so treat it as a ceiling rather than a typical month.

What is the catch with Candy AI?

Tokens run out, memory slips and the refund window is short. In my three months the character sometimes repeated things or lost track of earlier chats, and the same face across images was not guaranteed. Moderation also interrupted some prompts, so it is not fully unrestricted.

The refund rule is the one to know: you must ask within 24 hours of payment, and the request is denied if you used more than 20 tokens. Refunds are for card purchases only. Subscription tokens expire at the end of the billing period with no carry-over.

If you want to try it, Candy AI is where I would start. Note that the exact US dollar price of the 3-month and 12-month plans was not visible to me, because Candy shows local currency by location.

Is OurDream AI the best AI girlfriend app for images and video?

Yes, it is my pick for media. OurDream AI has image generation and editing, voice calls and video, paid for with 1,000 dreamcoins a month on the $19.99 Standard plan. The catch is that voice and video burn coins quickly, and its filter flags harmless content.

OurDream AI is run by Dream Studio USA, Inc., a Delaware corporation. The plan help article lists the monthly and annual prices and says you get 1,000 dreamcoins on each billing anniversary. Coins do not expire, which is a real advantage over Candy’s expiring tokens. Read more in the OurDream AI review.

What stands out about OurDream AI?

Image generation plus editing is one of the most interesting parts. Different chat models make it more customisable, and I liked that unused coins do not expire. It suits people who want to experiment with characters rather than just talk.

Costs come from the coin cost guide: a 5-second video is about 100 coins and a voice call is 50 coins a minute. That means the monthly 1,000 coins cover roughly 20 minutes of calls, or about ten 5-second clips. It also lists subscriber chats at 0 coins on the standard model.

What is the catch with OurDream AI?

The filter is the most frustrating part. The help center admits that moderation over-flags safe content, and says strictness is driven by payment providers. In my use it interrupted normal conversations. Conversations also got repetitive, and long-term memory needs work.

On refunds, OurDream offers a quality guarantee if you contact it within 14 days, case by case, per its refund policy. Crypto payments are final and non-refundable. If media matters most, try OurDream AI monthly first, since annual is paid upfront.

Is Nomi AI the best AI girlfriend app for memory? (not hands-on tested)

Nomi AI is the one to look at if memory is your priority, but I have not tested it. Its own site lists short and long-term memory, selfies, voice and group chats. On the US App Store the Launch plan is $9.99 a month and the Standard plan is $15.99.

Nomi is operated by Glimpse.ai, Inc., a Maryland corporation, according to its terms of service. Prices come from the App Store listing, because nomi.ai/pricing returned a 404 when I checked.

What stands out about Nomi AI?

The feature list is the broadest of the researched apps: memory, selfies, art generation, voice chats, hands-free calls, group chats and, per its news page, video generation. It works on web, iOS and Android.

Nomi also publishes a page on California SB 243, saying it follows the crisis-resource protocol the law requires for California users. That is a point in its favour on transparency.

What is the catch with Nomi AI?

Refunds and free limits. The cancellation policy says there are no refunds for unused time, partial months or dissatisfaction, though you can cancel any time and keep benefits to period end. The exact free message cap is not published officially.

I also could not confirm whether the Launch plan is still sold on the web, so check the price at checkout before you commit. Because I have not used it, I cannot say whether its memory claims hold up.

Is SpicyChat AI the best cheap AI girlfriend site? (not hands-on tested)

SpicyChat AI is the cheapest paid plan on this list, but I have not tested it. Its Get A Taste plan is $5.95 a month, and the platform is built around a large library of community-made characters, with adult roleplay allowed for adults.

The three tiers come from SpicyChat’s own pricing update FAQ, which also gives yearly prices of $60, $199.95 and $299.95. The previous monthly prices were $5, $14.95 and $24.95, and existing subscribers keep their old price while the plan stays active.

What stands out about SpicyChat AI?

Price per feature. According to its premium features page, the $5.95 tier removes ads and adds 4K context and a Memory Manager. The $19.95 tier adds 8K context, Semantic Memory 2.0 and conversation images.

The top tier adds text-to-speech, up to 32K context and priority generation. In plain words, you pay for a longer window of recent conversation. The FAQ says SFW-labelled bots can do NSFW roleplay, and explicit bots must be marked NSFW.

What is the catch with SpicyChat AI?

It is a text-first character platform rather than a polished girlfriend app. Hardcore imagery, photoreal porn, non-consent and incest are banned. The operator company and country, the refund policy and the free daily limits were not found in the docs I read.

That missing operator detail matters. I like to know who holds my data before paying, and for SpicyChat I could not say.

Is Janitor AI the best free AI girlfriend website? (not hands-on tested)

Janitor AI is the best free option on this list, but I have not tested it. Its help center says free users get unlimited chats with millions of community bots on standard models, with a context of about 9k tokens, and that free access will always remain.

The facts come from the subscription FAQ and the App Store listing. The seller is JanitorAI, INC, and I could not find its country. Janitor+ launched as the first subscription in June 2026 per the help center changelog, so the paid side is new.

What stands out about Janitor AI?

The free tier. Janitor+ adds 5x context, priority access and monthly swipes with the best models. There is also a web-only router that bills per token for third-party models, with a 10% subscriber discount.

It requires age verification from IPs in Australia, Brazil and the UK, run through k-ID. For a US reader that is context rather than a barrier.

What is the catch with Janitor AI?

It is a roleplay platform, not a companion with voice, images or video. I found no reference to those features on the pages I read. The help center also has no single sentence saying NSFW is allowed, only the adult-coded rule.

Subscriptions are generally non-refundable except where terms or law require. Billing runs through Stripe or the app stores, so a refund through Apple or Google follows their rules.

Is Joi AI one of the best AI girlfriend apps? (not hands-on tested)

Joi AI makes the list for its media tools and payment options, but I have not tested it and I cannot state a price. Its US dollar subscription price is not shown logged out, and third-party figures conflict, so I print none.

Joi (joi.com) is operated by Novi Limited of Cyprus, per its terms, last updated in June 2026. It has Basic (free, limited) and Premium (monthly to annual) programs, plus a paid “Neurons” currency. Payment options include cards, Google Pay, Apple Pay and crypto where available, and the statement shows joi.com.

What stands out about Joi AI?

The refund page is more specific than most. You can cancel in Settings under My Subscriptions, and the first support reply is promised within 72 hours. Refunds for erroneous one-time purchases are available within 14 days, in full for unspent Neurons.

The homepage lists AI characters, official AI twins of celebrities, image and video generation and custom characters.

What is the catch with Joi AI?

Missing numbers. The Neuron rates and exact free limits are not published in anything I could read. The age gate for mature content is a self-declaration click only. I would not pay until I could see the exact price at checkout.

Which AI girlfriend apps did I consider but leave out?

Four well-known names did not make the top six, each for a reason found in the data. None are hands-on tested. Character.AI and Replika are the two big mainstream names, and CrushOn and Kupid rely mostly on third-party facts.

• Character.AI. It announced it would remove open-ended chat for under-18s, and I could not read its NSFW policy because the site blocked my fetch. Its US App Store pricing is Character.AI+ at $9.99 a month. It is a general character app, not an adult companion pick.
• Replika. Replika has no web pricing page (replika.com/pricing returns 404). Its US App Store lists prices from $7.99 monthly, but plan names are not shown by Apple. Third parties say explicit roleplay was removed in 2023, and Italy’s regulator fined its operator EUR 5 million in 2025, per the EDPB.
• CrushOn.AI. Its official site was behind a Cloudflare challenge, so every fact is third party. Reports put Standard at $5.99 a month, but sources conflict on the free limit, so I did not rank it.
• Kupid AI. Its site blocked access, and the only pricing I found is third party and in euros, billed weekly. One review criticises a countdown-timer sale. I left it out until I can check it directly.

Plan names and prices for Replika, CrushOn and Kupid are third-party or app store listings, not brand pricing pages. Treat them as soft data.

Which AI girlfriend app is best for your use case?

Pick by what you will do most. If you mostly chat, Candy AI. If you want to make images or video, OurDream AI. If you want free, Janitor AI. If you want the cheapest paid plan, SpicyChat AI. If memory comes first, Nomi AI is worth a free try.

If you are comparing the two I paid for, remember the price gap. At list prices Candy is $13.99 and OurDream is $19.99 a month, a $6 difference. Paying for both costs $33.98 a month, which I did for about three months.

How much do AI girlfriend apps really cost?

The headline price is rarely the real price. Candy and OurDream both ration media, so your bill depends on how much media you make. Text-only users can stay on the base price, while voice and video users hit limits within days.

Here is a worked example. Candy gives 100 tokens a month. At 3 tokens a minute, that is about 33 minutes of voice calls. OurDream gives 1,000 coins, and at 50 coins a minute that is 20 minutes.

Per minute of voice, OurDream is more expensive at list price: $19.99 divided by 20 minutes is about $1.00 a minute, against about $0.42 on Candy. That is my arithmetic from the two plans, not a published price, and it assumes you spend the whole allowance on calls.

Annual plans are where the savings sit. OurDream’s yearly plan works out at $9.99 a month, billed once at $119.88. Candy’s 12-month plan was about a quarter of the monthly price per month on my screen, but I have no US dollar figure, so I print none.

Is it worth paying for an AI girlfriend app?

Only if you will use it weekly. A free tier is enough to find out whether you like the format, and Janitor’s free chat or SpicyChat’s free tier cost nothing to try. Pay only after you know which feature you will use.

If you do pay, start monthly. Candy’s refund window is 24 hours and OurDream’s annual plan is paid upfront, so a long plan is the costly way to find out you dislike an app. Put the renewal date in your calendar.

Check privacy too. Candy’s privacy policy says data is used to train models and that de-identified interactions can be reviewed by humans. OurDream’s privacy policy also lists training models among its purposes. Do not share anything you would not want a staff member to read.

Who should skip AI girlfriend apps?

Skip them if you are under 18, if you are in a crisis and want real support, or if you expect a human relationship. These are language models, and the companion category is under growing legal and regulatory attention in the US.

Two state laws are worth knowing. California SB 243 took effect on 1 January 2026 and requires clear AI notice and published self-harm protocols, per Skadden. New York’s companion law took effect in November 2025 and requires crisis referral and regular reminders that you are talking to AI, per the Governor’s office.

Also skip them if you are likely to overspend. Media features run on credits that deplete quickly, and the market is concentrated. According to TechCrunch, citing Appfigures, the top 10% of companion apps earn 89% of revenue, so smaller apps can disappear.
