Which AI girlfriend apps and cam sites have we reviewed?
Four brands so far. Candy AI and OurDream AI are the two I paid for and used for about three months each. Joi AI and Instacams are not hands-on tested, so what we publish about them comes only from their own terms, pricing and policy pages. Every AI girlfriend review is dated and sourced.

| Brand | Tested status | What we cover | Where to read |
|---|---|---|---|
| Candy AI, run by EverAI Limited (Malta) | Tested: paid monthly plan, about 3 months | Price, tokens, chat memory, images, filter, refunds, privacy | Candy AI review, pricing, is it safe |
| OurDream AI, run by Dream Studio USA, Inc. | Tested: paid Standard plan, about 3 months | Coin costs, image editing, voice, video, filter, refunds, privacy | OurDream AI review, promo codes |
| Joi AI, run by Novi Limited (Cyprus) | Not hands-on tested | No review page yet. We hold its operator, plan types and refund terms, but no US-dollar prices | Not yet |
| Instacams, run by Emvado Webadvertising B.V. (Netherlands) | Not hands-on tested | Random 1-on-1 video chat: credits, refunds, privacy, from its terms | Instacams review |
Choosing between the two I tested? From my own accounts, Candy AI is better value for regular chat and OurDream AI is better for media. The numbers are in the Candy AI vs OurDream AI comparison, and the comparisons hub will hold the next ones.

How do we write an AI girlfriend review?
We read the brand’s own pricing page, terms, refund policy, privacy policy and help center, and put every price and rule next to its source. For the apps ranked at the top, I also pay for a plan and use it for months. If a brand hides a number, the review says so instead of guessing.
- Read the brand’s own pages. The exact page is linked beside each number, so you can check it.
- Record what is not published. OurDream does not list coin pack prices where I could read them, and Candy does not list per-feature token costs. Reviews print “not published”, never a guess.
- Treat third-party claims as claims. Review sites quote Joi AI at $14.99, $17.77 and $21.99 a month, and those conflict, so we print none of them.
- Pay for the top picks. Candy AI and OurDream AI each ran on a paid plan for about three months. First-person notes come only from that use, and support response times are marked “not tested”.
- Recheck and date. The date at the top of a page is the last real update.

What does every AI companion review cover?
Every AI companion review answers the same eight questions so apps line up: who runs it, what a month costs, what is really free, what tokens or coins buy, how refunds work, what happens to your chats, what the age and content rules are, and whether it is an app or web only. Here is why each matters.
| Question | Why it matters | Example from our reviews |
|---|---|---|
| Who runs it? | A named company with an address answers for refunds and data | EverAI Limited runs Candy AI, Dream Studio USA, Inc. runs OurDream AI |
| What does a month cost? | The headline price hides the cost of credits | Candy was $13.99 a month on my account, OurDream is $19.99, or $9.99 a month billed yearly |
| What is really free? | “Free” is often a few messages | Candy free users get up to 5 messages, OurDream lists no official free coins |
| What do tokens or coins buy? | Credits decide how fast a plan runs out | Voice calls cost 3 tokens a minute on Candy and 50 coins a minute on OurDream |
| Can you get a refund? | The window can be a day | Candy 24 hours, OurDream 14 days, Instacams credits are final and non-refundable |
| What happens to your chats? | Training, staff review and retention differ | Candy and OurDream both say your input may train their AI models |
| What are the age and content rules? | Age checks and filters shape what you can do | OurDream runs ID, face or card checks in the UK and Australia, Joi asks for one click on Yes, I’m over 18 |
| App or web only? | It changes how you install and pay | OurDream has no native app, only a home screen shortcut |
What red flags should you check in any AI girlfriend app?
Check seven things before you pay: a vague privacy policy, weak security basics, a breach history, a one-click age gate, no AI notice or crisis handling, a bot that guilts you into staying, and a refund window you can miss. Each has evidence behind it, starting with Mozilla’s 2024 review of 11 romantic chatbots.
- A privacy policy too vague to rule out data sales. Mozilla’s Privacy Not Included review gave all 11 romantic chatbots a warning label. It found 90% sold data, shared it for targeted ads or had policies too vague to rule it out, and 54% blocked data deletion, per Infosecurity Magazine. Look for a “we do not sell” line and an in-app delete button.
- Weak security basics. The same review found 73% gave no vulnerability information, 64% gave no clear encryption information and 45% allowed weak passwords such as “11111”. Use a unique password.
- A breach history. Have I Been Pwned records that the Muah.ai breach exposed 1.9 million email addresses alongside image prompts. Malwarebytes reported that Chattee Chat and GiMe Chat leaked 43 million messages and over 600,000 images and videos from more than 400,000 users. Neither involved an app we have tested.
- A one-click age gate. Joi’s homepage asks for a click on “Yes, I’m over 18”. Ofcom’s age-assurance guidance does not count self-declaration, according to reports of it. Captain Compliance reports that Ofcom opened an investigation into an AI companion run by Novi Ltd, the company named in Joi’s terms. An investigation is not a finding, and I have not tested Joi.
- No AI notice or crisis handling. California’s SB 243 and New York’s companion law ask operators to tell users they are talking to an AI and to handle self-harm talk. Whether they reach adult companions is unconfirmed. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) also sent 6(b) orders to seven companies about companion chatbots and minors. A 6(b) study is not an enforcement action, and none of the seven is among our four brands.
- A bot that guilts you into staying. A Harvard Business School study, reported by the Harvard Gazette, found companion bots used a manipulation tactic in over 37% of goodbye conversations, and engagement after a goodbye rose up to 14-fold.
- A refund window you can miss. Candy’s is 24 hours and OurDream’s is 14 days, and Candy’s intro and renewal pricing can differ in my notes. Check the window on the day you pay.
Use a separate email, a payment method you are happy to see on a statement and no real name in chats. Then find the deletion route before you share anything personal.

How do you read our labels?
Each brand carries a status label, and neither is a score. “Tested 3 months” means I paid for a plan and used it for about three months. “Not hands-on tested” means the page is built only from the brand’s published pages. We use no numeric scores, star ratings or “9/10” anywhere.
| Label | What it means | Where you see it |
|---|---|---|
| Tested 3 months | A paid plan, about three months. First-person notes come only from that use | Candy AI, OurDream AI |
| Not hands-on tested | Built from the brand’s terms, pricing and policy pages. The page says so | Joi AI, Instacams |
| Best overall, Best for images and video | A use-case tag that says who an app suits. The catch is listed beside it | Brand tables |
| Not published | The brand does not show the number publicly, so we print none | Candy per-feature token costs, OurDream coin pack prices |
| Review sites report | A third-party claim we could not verify, never stated as fact | Joi’s conflicting monthly prices |
| Updated date | The last time we re-read the source pages | Top of every page |
