Where do the Candy AI vs OurDream AI numbers come from?
Every figure traces to a brand page or to my own accounts. For Candy AI that means its terms of service, its Premium page and my paid monthly plan. For OurDream AI it means the billing article, the coin cost guide and the refund policy.
Where a brand does not publish a number, such as Candy’s per-feature token costs or OurDream’s coin pack prices, the comparison says so.
How do we compare two AI girlfriend apps side by side?
We line up the same 26 rows for every pair of apps: seven basics with plain values and 19 feature rows scored Yes, Partly or No. A row earns its place only if it changes what you pay, what you can do or what happens to your data. Here is each row and why it matters.
Who runs it and what does it cost?
| Row | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Operator and country | The named company answers for refunds and data, and its country sets the law |
| Monthly price | The number most people compare first, in US dollars at list price |
| Yearly price | Yearly plans are paid upfront, so we show the monthly equivalent and the lock-in |
| Currency unit | Tokens and coins are different currencies, so we convert both to dollars |
| Cost of one credit | Plan price divided by monthly credits, which makes $0.14 a token and $0.02 a coin comparable |
| Voice per minute | Calls drain credits fastest, so this is the cleanest like-for-like cost |
What can you do with it?
| Row | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Free messages before paying | Shows what you can test for nothing |
| Unlimited text | Tells you whether credits touch plain chat at all |
| Image generation and editing | Generating is common, editing is rare, and the price differs |
| Video | Cost and length limits differ between apps |
| Voice calls | Whether calls exist and what a minute costs |
| Same face across images | Matters if you build one character and want her to look the same |
| Long-term memory | Whether the character remembers earlier chats |
What rules do you live with?
| Row | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Filter strictness | Decides which prompts get through, taken from my notes and the help center |
| Published cost per action | Lets you price a month before paying |
| Credits carry over | Expiring credits are money lost if you do not spend them |
| Discounts on plans | Badges change the real price, and we count only official ones |
| Refund window and refund after use | A 24-hour window and a 14-day window are very different safety nets |
| Crypto | Adds payment privacy, but crypto payments are often final |
| Native app or PWA | Decides how you install it |
| Age verification | Shows how an operator treats minors and regulators such as Ofcom |
| Training and data sale | Whether your chats feed the model and whether they are sold |
| In-app deletion | Whether you can leave without emailing support |
How do you compare tokens and coins fairly?
Convert both to dollars with one formula: plan price divided by monthly credits. Candy AI’s $13.99 for 100 tokens is $0.14 a token, and OurDream AI’s $19.99 for 1,000 coins is $0.02 a coin, so a token is worth about seven coins. Voice then costs about $0.42 a minute on Candy and $1.00 on OurDream.
Those are list prices at the time of writing. The formula charges the whole plan price to credits, although both plans also include unlimited text, so the bias is the same on both.
When an app does not publish a cost, we set a break-even instead of guessing. Candy does not list an image price where I could read it, so the comparison says Candy would have to charge about 0.7 of a token per image to match OurDream’s $0.10 a standard image. Above one token, OurDream is cheaper per image.
What makes a fair AI girlfriend app comparison?
Same rows, same date, same units, same evidence. We note which apps I paid for and which I only read about, put a prices-as-of date on every price table, convert credits with one formula and never print an overall winner. Each app gets its strengths and its catch.
- Same rows for both apps. No row is added because one app happens to win it.
- One date. Prices are checked together, and the table says when.
- Tested against read. My own-account notes are labelled, and an untested app gets cells from its published pages only.
- Unknowns shown. A number the brand does not publish is marked as such, as with Candy’s yearly US-dollar price.
- Weaknesses on both sides. Every winner list sits next to a list of its catches.
- No scores. We name a pick per use case instead of a number.
- Affiliate disclosure. We may earn from the brands we compare, and a commission gap does not decide a pick. See the affiliate disclosure.
Which AI girlfriend app comparisons are coming next?
Joi AI against Candy AI and OurDream AI is the likely next pair. Joi has to wait for a fair price row: its US-dollar prices are not published where I could read them, and review sites report conflicting monthly figures of $14.99, $17.77 and $21.99. Joi has also not been hands-on tested.
What we can already say about Joi from its own pages: it has a free Basic tier and a Premium subscription billed monthly to yearly, it takes cards, Apple Pay, Google Pay and crypto where available, and refunds are open for 14 days on erroneous one-time purchases, per its terms and refund page. Still missing are its Neurons rates and its free-tier limits.
Until the data is there, the reviews cover each app on its own, and cam sites such as Instacams stay in their own section because they sell video time, not a chatbot.
How should you use a comparison to choose?
Start with the one thing you will do most, convert it to dollars, then check the refund window and the filter notes before you pay. A voice-call user, for example, should compare cost per minute, because $0.42 against $1.00 matters more than the headline plan price.
- Pick your main use: text chat, images, video or calls.
- Convert it to a monthly cost with the token and coin formula above.
- Check the refund window on the day you pay, because it can be as short as 24 hours.
- Read the filter and memory notes, since both apps I tested were imperfect there.
- Start monthly and move to a yearly plan only once you know you will stay. Our how we test page explains where each number comes from.
Here is the voice example worked through. Three 10-minute calls in a month cost 90 tokens on Candy AI, which fits inside its usual 100. The same calls cost 1,500 coins on OurDream AI, which is 500 more than its 1,000-coin allowance, so the cheaper plan on paper is not the cheaper plan for that user.
